It is has been way too long since I’ve posted anything on this blog. Why? Good question. I recently met with a group of creatives over lunch and we all asked ourselves the same question. For clarification, the topic wasn’t “Why hasn’t Matt posted anything on his blog in a while” even though I suggested that. It was shot down pretty quickly. I think everybody else in the room was being way too selfish with their time but…whatevs. It was “What keeps us from creating, promoting and being consistent in our art?”
As you can imagine, the answers were as different as the personalities sitting around the table. “Its a time thing.”, “I feel guilty for taking time away from my job” and the ever popular “At night I don a cape and a cowl and I’m too busy saving the city from the greatest evil mankind has ever known.” Okay, that last one was mine…and an outright lie. I had to have something right?
Our conclusion was, we each have excuses but they are all just that…excuses. If we spent 10 or 15 minutes twice a week on our art, it is 20-30 mintues more than we have been spending on it all year. If you are an artist, it is a part of who you are and to not practice it or promote it, is an abuse of the gift God has given you. As artists, lets commit to making good on those gifts. Peace.
