I Don’t Dance

My kids love TV shows and music that sometimes drive me crazy. Parents, can I get an AMEN?! Let me rattle off a few examples for you: The Wiggles, Blues Clues, Dora the Explora (by the way…Explora is NOT a word). However, there are times where I can be going about my day, returning emails or filling out paperwork where I find myself singing “Fruit salad..Yummy Yummy” and then I want to poke my eyes out. Not literally…maybe sometimes.

However, I have to admit that there is one group that our family likes to sing and dance to and that’s “The Imagination Movers”. Yes, I’ve reached full blown parentdom when I can admit this in public. I’m a nerd. We recently went to Sea World and went to one of their concerts. It was a blast! They sang their songs and integrated some 80’s classics into the mix. I could be wrong but I think I remember them slipping “My Adidas” by Run DMC in there.

Our entire family was hamming it up and dancing in the aisles. At one point “Mover Scott” pointed at us and said “Beautiful”. It is our claim to fame. I’ll be honest, we were way too excited about that moment. What I did notice is that there a lot of families NOT dancing. I remember thinking, “Dude, these punks are missing out on some serious fun!” They were clearly communicating “I don’t dance.” You gotta be willing to make a fool of yourself with your kids on occasion.

I think that applies to community with others as well. There are times when you have to be willing “to dance”. You need to be willing to cut loose and have fun for the sake of bonding with others. What are some areas that you have made up your mind “I don’t dance” or to put it another way “I’m too cool to participate”?
