Beaten and bruised. Tired and unwilling to move. Attempting to pick myself up for the millionth time in months, I slowly dust off my clothes and stand up. Not confidently or boldly but BARELY. Adversity and perseverance feels like this doesn’t it? There are days when staying in bed simply feels like the best option. Closing the blinds and not answering your phone seems like a REALLY good idea and finishing the entire box of Oreos Double Stuff cookies is just the right thing to do!
There is a verse in Isaiah that I always think of when I’m feeling like this. Here it is: Isaiah 42:3 “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;”
Part of being like Jesus is keeping our eyes on the prize and pushing through the tough times even when we don’t feel like it. Just know that in times when we don’t feel God’s presence, He’s still there walking with us, we just need to stay faithful. It may not be confidently, courageously or boldy, but barely. And sometimes, that’s good enough.
